Places to visit: Manila, Philippines
From Manila, the Philippine capital, has a unique spirit that is in Asia and Spanish melted. Settled by Spain in 1571, was known as the "Pearl of the Orient", the jewel of Spain's empire in the Pacific.
The country gained its independence after World War II. However, much of the city was destroyed and has never succeeded in rebuilding or restoring their regional importance and identity. Today Metro Manila is a conglomerate of 17 cities and municipalities – a "mega-city" offering a mix of cultures.
It is difficult to determine exactly what is in Manila. It is a fusion of extreme contrasts of wealth and poverty, street vendors and malls bustling chaos civilized and quiet and green.
The city of Manila houses many attractions, parks and open spaces, museums, shopping, nightlife and abundant. At the heart of the walled city, where the strengths and dungeons, old churches and colonial houses can be found.
Moving in Manila
Like many cities Asia, Manila, faces much of the traffic congestion that makes a mess during rush hour and rain. Fortunately, the transportation is very cheap, including taxis.
Local jeepneys (brightly colored jeeps become used as minibuses) are a popular form of transport and can be hailed anywhere. They are cheap, abundant and best suited for short trips. Local buses are useful for reaching places where main roads, where they are banned on most streets city. As jeepneys, buses have their destinations indicated on billboards.
The lifting system of light rail (LRT) and the MetroStar helped alleviate some of congestion. They are a great way to get dramatic increase in traffic, but normally packed during peak hours.
In sections of Manila, can be found Kales (coaches) that the trip through traffic, carrying passengers and goods. Tricycles (motorcycles with sidecars) and pedicabs (bicycles with sidecars) are also for rent, maintenance of roads and alleys of the neighborhoods.

Intramuros
Intramuros is inside a fortress built by the Spanish when they colonized Manila. The walls of Fort twenty meters high and over a mile long, protection rich of several hotels, churches and schools. Unfortunately, the fortress was destroyed during the Second World War but a sense of history remains.
Many Intramuros has been refurbished and is proving to be an interesting attraction for visitors. Here you will find the Casa Manila, Manila Cathedral and the Shrine Museum Rizal.
Quiapo and Chinatown
Chinatown is the center of the dynamic Chinese community, where local entrepreneurs to taste continent true delight. Walking along Ongpin street where there are tens of jewelers, herbalists, tea houses and shops, incense, jewelry, etc. at risk near Quiapo streets and visit the Church of Quiapo, one of the most famous temples in Manila (also known as the Church of the Nazarene black). Built in 1582, which surprisingly has withstood earthquakes, riots, rebellions and war. The church is a statue of Christ, who is known for its miraculous virtues, which attracts hordes of visitors.
Coconut Palace

Upon entering the doors of this old house, you enter an ancient royal house full of artwork and memorabilia. You will be welcomed with a drink on the terrace receive a mini-tour of the place. The dishes are served on old china, glassware and silverware. Choose from a selection of recipes from the old world passed through generations and used in a conventional manner, or those with a modern twist. One particular favorite is paella and bread pudding.

Try specialties like cuts of chilled pork with spicy garlic sauce, shrimp sauteed with fresh orange sauce and ribs in a clay pot.
Shopping
The tropical climate in Manila, together with facilities shopping centers, world-class Filipinos continue to attract stores. The largest mall in the country is the SM Mall of Asia located near the bay Manila. It has an ice rink, a discovery center of science, IMAX Theater and many other attractions. There is also high level of purchases as Shangri-La Plaza, El Podium Ortigas Center and Glorietta Mall, where you can find designer goods and accessories.
Venturing beyond the shopping centers can be go to markets where bargaining is an essential part of their shopping experience. Visitors often return markets backed with mirrors, lamps Capiz shell and lace hand-carved ornaments. Each city district, with the exception of the port has its own procurement. Bargains are easy to find at malls in the mass market, such as SM or the market! Market! A more buyers interested in the adventure can be directed to serious negotiations in flea markets (called tiangge) so that Divisoria, 168 Mall or Greenhills. Note that you may need a hand-trained eye to spot forgeries.
TuTubo Divide Center to offer more comforts including air conditioning, shopping center, but commodity prices remain very similar to those purchased from outside. In Quiapo, a unique place in the market under the bridge, which sells original artwork, and Filipino dishes. Also in Quiapo, Hidalgo Street is ideal for low-cost equipment and camera accessories.
