How do I find out what my Mr. Green Jeans doll is worth without spending a lot on an appraisal?

I have a plush Mr. Green Jeans doll (from the Captain Kangaroo show) in good condition. I tried looking up the value in doll collectors’ books, and also tried finding similar items on eBay, but no one seems to have Mr. Green Jeans.
I thought about taking it to an antique store, but I’m not really sure I want to sell, and if I did, I want to be sure I get a fair quote.

Some times the item you have is rare and it takes time for someone to show up on eBay. It took me over 6 months to locate a tea pot that was like the one my grandmother had.

How much would you be willing to take for it? Condition, age, how many others are out there are just 3 factors to be considered in selling. Some stuffed dolls that are close to 100 years old can get only $50 because of condition. Good is not excellent – excellent means you can ask a higher then normal amount.

List it on eBay and start with a reserve of $75 to start with. If it doesn’t sell then lower the price by $10. Or you can consign the doll at an antique store. They get a portion of the sale price and you get some too. But watch yourself with dealers. They could tell you it is worth only $5 and they turn around and sell it for $150. That’s is why i like eBay. Good luck!
